    Editing your Gravatar- Tutorial

In this tutorial, I will run through how to change the picture of your gravatar. This will allow you to have whatever image you want next to your name whenever you post or make a comment. It’s essentially useless, but it looks nice. Here’s what to do:

Sign into your wordpress account at the very top of the page when you go to http://www.wordpress.com

Note** If you are already signed in, you will be automatially directed to another page. If that is the case, just skip to step two.

Click on ‘Dashboard’ under the IU PAINTERS Blog.

Your dashboard is where you will manage your username, make posts, etc. On the left hand side of the screen, you will see a bunch of drop-down tabs. Click the down arrow on ‘Users’ and then Click ‘My Profile’

On the right side of the screen you should see a big blue icon with some text under it that says “Change your gravatar”. Click on that button.

Click the first link that comes up. It should read “Upload a new image from your computer”. This is going to prompt you to select an image from your hard drive to use as your gravatar. The image can be any size you want- you will be prompted to crop it in the next step. If you don’t have an image in mind, you will need to pause this process and find one before you proceed. If you have a laptop with a built in webcam, you can select “Use your webcam to take a snapshot of yourself” and it will automatically use that picture. It’s up to you.

You will be prompted to crop your image into a square format. The previews on the right hand side will give you an indication of what the image will look like when you have completed. When you have finished cropping, click the “Crop and Finish” button at the bottom.

This step will ask you to ‘rate’ the level of your gravatar. Unless your putting up porn, I think it’s probably fine to just select ‘G’. This step is just so people who don’t want to view what they deem inappropriate content don’t have to.

That’s all there is to it!

****Note: It can sometimes take a few minutes for the gravatar to have effects on your dashboard and on the blog itself. If it doesn’t show up right away, don’t worry about it. If it has been longer than a few hours and you still can’t see it, try again, or send me an email and I will see if I can help you.

Creating a Wordpress Username – Tutorial

A few people have been having a little trouble figuring out how to get themselves set up to interact on wordpress. Here is a tutorial on how to sign up for a username.

Head over to http://www.wordpress.com and click on the orange “sign up now” button on the right hand side.

Fill out all the information on the next page: a username, password, password confirmation, and primary email address. Click the button that says you have read the legal information. Then click “Just a Username, Please” (unless you want to start your own blog too, that’s up to you)

Check the primary email address that you entered during step two. WordPress.com should be sending you an email containing a link that you will need to click in order to activate your account. This is usually sent immediately, but could take a few minutes. As soon as you get the email, click the link inside of it.

Send me an email at hinkle.travis @ gmail.com telling me which email address of yours you used to sign up during step 2. That is how I will be able to add you as an author on IUPainters. Once I am able to do that, you will automatically see IU Painters on your wordpress ‘Dashboard’ whenever you sign into wordpress.

That’s all there is to it!

    Hello world!

    Hello Everyone
Welcome to IU Painters. We hope this will become a forum for MFA and BFA students to interact with each other online. This blog is designed as a forum for sharing information about all issues pertaining to painting, aesthetics, and art in general. The layout is similar to Twitter in an effort to foster quick, shorter posts, but it should also support longer posts as well. Even more interestingly than the posts themselves, this layout should support a clear and dynamic way of viewing comments and responses to those posts.
For right now, Travis is serving as the de facto administrator of this blog. For any suggestions on how to improve the blog, please email him at tdhinkle@indiana.edu.
If you are interested in participating, please go to wordpress.com to create a profile. You will then be able to email Travis, who will authorize you to author posts without having to go through admin.
    Please participate!
